Houseboats and future travels

Coming to Sweden I have met some pretty interesting people, people I can call my friends..those of you who know me know I don't quite consider everyone I meet a friend or an acquaintance I usually just play along and act nice at the same time not really caring much, but these people seem to be genuinely interested in me so I can safely call them friends.

On the subject of friends,  everyone knows we can have weird conversations with them.. be it anything from from what would you do if you were the last person on earth to I wonder how life would be like if you were to live on a house boat....

This is what today's blog is about.. houseboats. life on the high seas. Yarr I'm not talking about being all action hero-y like Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean or  being all hot and bothered like Jesse Jane in Pirates(yes it is real movie).

I think the majority of us are so used to life on the land that we can forget how cool it can be to take a cruise or enjoy life on the water.. If any of you are documentary buff's I implore you to watch the BBC's Oceans and the BBC's Human planet. There are whole villages that live life on the water.

My friend and I were discussing the subject of living life on a boat. In Uppsala we see many boats hanging out on the canal docks, some are just small fishing boats while others have a full out glass pane and garden on them.

I for one think it would be awesome to take a year or two and travel around like that. Think about it, owning  a houseboat means you have a method of transport and you get to visit practically all the continents in the world. Although at the same time, our discussion turned into a cost effective problem.. how much would you pay if you were touring around Europe on your houseboat(docking taxes), as well as a service problem.. Would you get internet service via Satellite, would it even be reliable? And my all time favorite would you be able to even get a girl back from the bar to your houseboat without her thinking you were lame? What if you were wearing a suit ala Barney style on "How I met your mother". The suit idea always seems to work for him ;)

Would you be paying taxes in the countries that you are visiting if you lived and worked there for a few months? How would you deal with mail? Would you even be able to get electricity on the boats? Which countries would you even be visiting?

These are all good questions, I don't really have answers for these yet..well maybe I can  say I would be starting from England and then be sailing  to Spain, with a quick 2 month stop to Ibiza during summer(hello SPACE Ibiza) and then onwards to Italy and then Greece but this is all speculation for now..  perhaps the Unconventional tourist will have to try it out one day..
